Progress is slow even with funding still coming in. There are schools and roads that have been rebuilt. With all the money that has been donated, many people question why more has not been done. The area is difficult to get heavy machinery and supplies into. There was also major damage to the port.

Most of the aid in the beginning was for food, water and temporary shelters. The focus is now on long term reconstruction. Many buildings that were not destroyed are being evaluated for upgrades. With experience manpower at a minimum, upgrades and new builds lag behind.

Many volunteers are still arriving to help this country out. Basic training has to be given so they know what to expect. There are many churches that are helping families by rebuilding homes and taking them in temporarily. Many churches have to be rebuilt.

The biggest need is for an organization of groups to get construction teams moving with the design teams that can rebuild properly in these earthquake zones. By building sustainable building, they are planning for the future in case of another disaster. Having structurally sound buildings will allow them to withstand a catastrophe.

Early warning systems need to be put in place. These systems can give advance notice and save many lives. By monitoring seismic activity, this would allow residents to get to safe locations and out of buildings that can fall. The local governments should work in conjunction with the USGS to use the data of this activity and warn heavily populated areas of possible earthquakes. They formed a campaign called Red Envelope Day to get the defense of pre-borns out to not only the public but to important officials as well. They targeted politicians, governors, the senate and even the white house. Envelopes which were red would be sent out to all whom they could address them to. They did not hold letters within but were completely empty. All it said on the outside was a quote for the child that died from abortion.

These cards would hold only one saying “This envelope represents one child who died in abortion. It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world. Responsibility with Conception”. That is it the entire message. It may not be many words but its meaning is deeply heart felt.

One drawback this campaign had in its first year of running was that many knew about it and the ones that did including many media people just kind of pushed it aside and moved on to other stories and news. Even the political leaders and others in influential positions turned their backs on it. This should be something that news as well as our leaders of government take concern with and have stands against and not just ignore the whole thing all together.

This next Red Envelope Day everything will be done to correct earlier mistakes regarding the media and so forth. More envelopes than ever will be sent out to as many leaders in positions of authority as is needed to be heard. More advertising and strategy will be done to keep media outlets interested and involved as well as political advisers and leaders.
